HEROES FOR FEBRUARY - Congratulations to Lena and Abri. You both are great representatives of heroes! We are very proud of you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Billy, Eli, Lexi, and Patricia MacLachlan (author of Sarah, Plain and Tall).
Language Arts ~ 4th graders enjoyed performing Reader's Theater with Sarah, Plain and Tall.
Math ~ We've finished the current unit of fractions, but will be studying them again in a future unit. Now we're working on perimeter and area.
Science ~ We've enjoyed delving into "Newton's 3 Laws of Motion" this week.
Social Studies ~ Students have been creating timelines featuring many of the early explorers of Maine.
Wellness ~ Did you know that the heart beats 100,000 times in one day and the blood travels a total of 12,000 miles in this same time span? That's four times the distance across the US from coast to coast! These are just some of the many interesting facts we've learned while exploring the cardiovascular system. Students also had fun using a stethoscope to listen to each other's heartbeat. In the gym, students continue to actively engage in heart healthy activities, realizing that physical movement coupled with a nutrient-dense diet promotes a strong and healthy heart.
Civil Rights ~ The 8th grade Civil Rights Team has begun weekly visits to fourth grade. They are discussing and guiding activities to help us all build better peer relationships and a stronger school environment.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Our "Hearts for Haiti Fundraiser" is complete. We raised a grand total of ...drum roll please ...ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! (Actually, it was $99.60. Thanks for the 40 cents Mrs. Smith.) What an awesome and caring group of 4th graders (and parents) we have! The money has been donated to a very reputable organization called, "Samaritan's Purse," and will be put to immediate good use. Thank you all!
No school for students - next Friday, March 12.
Kindergarten registration - Friday, March 19, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the McKusick School in Parkman.
