Sixth Grade Newsletter
May 11, 2012
Sixth graders work right up to the end of the school year. If students need more time to finish assignments, they should arrange to stay after school on Monday and/or Thursday.
End of Year Assessment
NWEA testing is finished for this school year, but other assessments are being administered each week this month. Sixth graders will be writing their final prompt on Monday morning and will be assessed for fluency next week. Coming to school properly rested is important at this time of year.
Necessary Practice
Math facts are weak for many of our sixth graders. If you have access to the internet at home, there are math games where students can practice their facts. Here is the path: www.sad4.com > click on PCES > click on sixth grade > click on math. The following website has many math activities at all different levels: http://www.mathplayground.com/thinkingblocks.html. Spelling needs to be practiced out loud each day. That is the only way they will be remembered over time. Students will be taking many tests in May to assess progress during this year. One of them is a spelling assessment. Students who practice out loud every night tend to do very well on that test.
Classroom Information
Students still need to be reading 10 pages each day in their books of choice, adding interesting words to their word banks, as well as adding information to their book logs about their independent reading choices.
Please notice quest five of the passport project is due next Friday.
